The World’s Unluckiest People

If you think you have bad luck, then check out these guys! These outrageously unlucky stories will hopefully cheer you up.

Henry Zeigland
In 1883, when Henry Ziegland ended the relationship with his girlfriend, who later killed herself from the distress, was hunted down by her vengeful brother. Henry was shot at, but the bullet just missed, grazing his face. The brother, thinking Henry was dead, then ended his own life straight after. Years later, Henry decided to retrieve the ‘lucky’ bullet, which had lodged itself into a tree. Deciding he would blow the tree up using dynamite, he strapped a few sticks to the trunk, and boom! The explosion launched the bullet straight out, into Henry’s head, killing him instantly. Now that’s unlucky!

Roy Sullivan
Roy Sullivan (1912-1983) was a United States park ranger, in Virginia. He holds the record for “the person struck by lightning more recorded times than any other human being”. Between the years 1942-1977, Roy was hit by seven lightning strikes, all on different occasions-and survived them all. All lightning strikes were confirmed by doctors, and he even recalled that the first time he was hit by lightning was when he was a child, however without any proof, he could not claim it. Roy Sullivan is considered to be one of the most unlucky people to have ever lived.
Costis Mitsotakis

Costis Mitsotakis, a Spanish man living in Sodeto, a tiny 70-household village, missed out on the opportunity of a lifetime! Each Christmas in Spain a lottery draw called El Gordo, meaning “the fat one” is held. Costis was the only one in the village to not purchase tickets, and guess who won? Everyone but him. The citizens of El Gordo, mostly poor farmers and construction workers, instantly became millionaires, sharing the total grand prize money of $950 million- everyone but Costis.
So next time you think you’re having bad day, think yourself lucky that you’re not one of these men!
