5 Most Popular Commencement Speeches

Read some of the most interesting and popular commencement speeches of all time.

George Saunders at the Graduation Ceremony 2013 in Syracuse University
"Be kind."
"What I regret most in my life are failures of kindness," Saunders said. "Those moments when another human being was there, in front of me, suffering, and I responded ... sensibly. Reservedly. Mildly."
Do those things that incline you toward the big questions, and avoid the things that would reduce you and make you trivial. That luminous part of you that exists beyond personality -- your soul, if you will -- is as bright and shining as any that has ever been.

President Barack Obama, Morehouse Graduation Ceremony 2013
"My whole life, I've tried to be for Michelle and my girls what my father was not for my mother and me."
"Sometimes I wrote off my own failings as just another example of the world trying to keep a black man down"
"I had a tendency sometimes to make excuses for me not doing the right thing. But one of the things that all of you have learned over the last four years is there's no longer any room for excuses"

Neil Gaiman, University of the Arts 2012
"When things get tough, this is what you should do. Make good art."
“A freelance life, a life in the arts, is sometimes like putting message in bottles, on a desert island, and hoping that someone will find one of your bottles and open it and read it, and put something in a bottle that will wash its way back to you: appreciation, or a commission, or money, or love."

"People keep working, in a freelance world ... because their work is good, and because they are easy to get along with, and because they deliver the work on time. And you don't even need all three. Two out of three is fine"

Here is an example of a funny commencement address:

Tips on Getting Good Grades

Even if you are really determine but you still don't understand, grades will always be the basis to be successful in college. And when you don't have a college degree, most likely companies will not hire especially with this competitive world of economy and business. Here are interesting tips you should remember to be able to get through college.

1. College will not be like high school. Professors and even your parents will not always remind you to do the things you need to do like studying and doing your projects. It's your responsibility to remind yourself on what to do to get your grades up.

2. Always pick the right courses do not pick those you think you ca not do. If you are picking math, English, science and languages, be sure to pick the right level. Although, do not settle for a standard program given to you. If you are good on what you are doing, there will be a higher chance you'll get better grades.

3. All of us wants to finish college and because we think we only consume lesser time when we step to college, we tend to overload subjects. Overloading subjects might be a problem when you have exams. Do not take more than one major.

4. Always devise a plan. If you have a calendar, put there all your college schedules like exams, classes and even reviews. Make sure you are committed into doing those goals.
5. Always do your best not to be absent during class. Although some students do well when they are absent, some professors give surprise quizzes and activities.

 6. Take note of whatever important things the professor is saying or writing on the board. They are 100 % needed during exams. Do not worry about how dirty your handwriting is, just write everything then fix it later.

7. Avoid Multitasking. Do not do a lot of things at once, always focus to do something at your best. Multitasking is not really efficient for us human beings. We have a possibility we can't do things the right way if we do things at once.
